The use of 35mm in TV

Just wondering,

Over here in the UK ive noticed that a lot of British one-off drama programmes primarily for TV broadcast are filmed in 35mm. However the TV series programmes are all filmed on video.
I know that in America most tv series are filmmed on 35mm and always have been (freinds, er, x files etc, which i thought was because of NTSC video cameras providing inferior results to 35mm.

My point is that why are they doing it in the UK, especially when the program will be broadcast on TV.

Is it purely to catch the cool film "look", or just cos the Americans are doing it!

For International Distribution and the coming of High Definition TV (whenever the hell that happens.) If you shoot 35mm film, you'll have a medium that will be able to transfered to any current video format or any planned for the next decade or so without losing resolution. It adds value for overseas distribution because film goes to NTSC, PAL or HD no problems.

Plus Video is just flat out trash.(My Opinion) Film will stand the test of time for many reason which have already been tread over on this site time and time again. Shoot film and you will never ever be sorry.

Im glad there are other people who agree film is the best medium, so many people are banging on about digital cinema and things like that but film is part of the whole cinema experience!, the wonderful colour and the grain and who cares about the odd little pop or scratch that appears every so often.

It feels like a movie is doing so much more when its a reel of film roaring through a projector rather then a few intregated circuits pumping out pictures
